For a small archipelago off the coast of Ecuador, the Galapagos islands enjoy outsized fame. Since playing a pivotal role in inspiring Charles Darwin’s theory of evolution in 1835, the islands have become an almost sacred destination for wildlife enthusiasts, historians, and lovers of science alike.
But what is it about the Galapagos that continues to fascinate travelers and capture imaginations around the world? In this article, we explore what makes these islands so special, and why a Galapagos cruise promises a journey of discovery you’ll never forget.
Unique Wildlife
As Darwin discovered when visiting the Galapagos almost 200 years ago, these islands host an astonishingly diverse array of wildlife – much of it uniquely adapted to life in the archipelago.
While seeing the famous giant Galapagos tortoises will be at the top of any nature lover’s list, many other captivating creatures call the Galapagos home. Here are some of our favorites:
Blue-footed boobies
Marine iguanas
Galapagos penguins
Galapagos sea lions
Galapagos hawks
Darwin’s finches
Waved albatrosses
When cruising the waters around the Galapagos, you may also be fortunate enough to spot sperm whales, bottlenose dolphins, and orcas. In the warmer months, even the occasional humpback and blue whales can be seen!
Stunning Natural Beauty
The Galapagos is an archipelago formed by volcanic activity, accounting for the islands’ dramatic landscapes. When you disembark to explore the islands, prepare to encounter breathtaking sights, like lava fields, volcanic craters, a variety of cacti, and, of course, some of the most pristine beaches on Earth.
While the Galapagos boasts picturesque white sand beaches to rival any other in the Pacific, white is only one of several colors of beaches found in the archipelago.
Hang out with the sea lions and flamingos on the surreal red sand beach of Rabida Island.
Walk in Darwin’s footsteps on the black sand beach of James Bay.
Stand in awe of the otherworldly green sands of Cormorant Point Beach on Floreana Island.
After seeing these amazing sights up close, it won’t take long to understand why the Galapagos is beloved by so many.
Rich History
While renowned for its natural beauty, the Galapagos features a rich human history as thrilling to learn about as the islands are to explore.
From Western explorers and pirates to indigenous people who made their way to the Galapagos from the mainland centuries ago, the islands have been drawing people to their exotic shores for many years.
When you go on your Galapagos cruise, be sure to book an expert-guided excursion to learn all about the archipelago’s fascinating history.
Sustainable Tourism Practices
As a beacon of scientific progress and ecological diversity, the Galapagos has gone to great lengths to build sustainable tourism practices that help preserve the natural beauty of the world’s first UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Ensuring tourism companies comply with strict regulations dramatically reduces environmental impacts, and the close management and monitoring of these federally protected lands helps maintain the diversity the islands are famed for. The Galapagos ultimately serves as an example of how to conduct tourism in a way that fosters appreciation for the natural world without inflicting harm.

A Celebrity Caribbean cruise is perfect for relaxing, recharging, and making lasting memories. But, getting out onto the open sea only to discover that you’ve come unprepared can quickly turn a carefree vacation into a frustrating situation.
To help you avoid any unwanted surprises on your vacation, we’ve put together this list of top things to pack for your Celebrity Caribbean cruise.
What Clothes Should You Pack for Your Caribbean Cruise?
Swimsuit
An island getaway isn’t complete without a swimsuit – or several. Whether you’re lounging poolside, soaking in the sun on the beach, or taking a dip in the ocean, a swimsuit is a must. And, considering the length of your cruise, you’ll want multiple swimsuits to change into.
There are also other activities to consider. Swimwear that works for lounging or casual swimming may not function as well for snorkeling, surfing, or more strenuous swimming.
Casual Clothing
The Caribbean is paradise… a very warm paradise. Light, casual clothing is essential when exploring the shore or roaming the deck during the day. Casual clothing is also great to slip on over your swimsuit before heading back to the room.
Formal Wear
Of course, it wouldn’t be a Celebrity cruise without formal dining. The appropriate formal wear is a must for dinner in the main dining rooms or one of the specialty restaurants.
For women, consider cocktail dresses, blouses, and pants. For men, sweaters, button-down shirts, sports coats, and blazers are all great options.
Sweater
While the days aboard a cruise ship are warm, the evenings can be surprisingly cool. Once the night breeze starts rolling over the ocean, you’ll want something to take the chill off. A light sweater will not only keep you warm, but it can also double as formal wear.
Active Wear
If you’re planning on hiking, kayaking, or performing other activities requiring strenuous exercise and possible exposure to the elements, consider packing active wear like water and mosquito-resistant shirts and pants, hiking shoes, or ponchos.
Sunglasses
There’s nothing quite as beautiful as the Caribbean’s blue, sun-dazzled waters. But without the proper protection, they can be a little too dazzling. A pair of sunglasses will keep you from squinting and shielding your eyes all day when you should be living in the moment.
Proper Footwear
Proper footwear can mean the difference between a relaxing outing and an uncomfortable one. Pack a pair of sandals for beach days or afternoons at the pool, formal shoes for dinner, and casual shoes like sneakers for general wear.
Packing Tips
Considering the number of clothing items, it’s important to know how to pack them to maximize the space in your suitcase and keep everything organized. Here are some tips to help you pack for your Celebrity Caribbean Cruise.
Roll Shirts and Underwear
Rather than folding small items like shirts and underwear, consider rolling them. Rolling is more efficient and takes up less space in your suitcase, allowing you to fit more items.
Use Packing Cubes
By compressing your items to make them as small as possible, packing cubes give you more space and make packing much easier. They also help with organization, saving you the frustration of digging through your suitcase as you look for certain items.
Sink Stopper to Wash Delicates
There may be certain items you’ll want to wash either to wear again or clean before putting them back in your suitcase. A sink stopper is a convenient, economical solution for giving those items a quick rinse.
Pill Organizer
Medication bottles can be bulky. And, if you’re packing more than one, you may even lose track of them. Instead, use a pill organizer to keep everything organized, accessible, and easy to find.
Other Items to Include
To make sure you’re prepared for your cruise, here is a checklist of other non-clothing items to consider.
Plugs and chargers
Sunscreen
Lip balm
After sun lotion
Insect repellent
Travel documents
A backpack or day bag
Toiletries
Resealable bags
Water bottle

Dublin is one of my favorite cities in Western Europe. Nestled on the coast of Ireland, the capital Dublin is a beacon of culture and history. With its rich tapestry of tradition, modernity, and warm hospitality, the Irish capital fascinates visitors from around the globe. From its iconic landmarks to its lively pubs echoing with the sounds of traditional music, Dublin offers an experience like no other.
Dublin’s history is as diverse as it is fascinating. Founded by the Vikings over a thousand years ago, the city has witnessed centuries of turmoil, resilience, and transformation. Its medieval roots are still evident in the cobblestone streets of the Temple Bar district (wonderful food, drink and music) and the grand Dublin Castle, which has stood as a symbol of power for centuries.
You can explore deeper into Dublin’s past with a visit to Trinity College, Ireland’s oldest university, where the ancient Book of Kells is proudly displayed. This illuminated manuscript, dating back to the 9th century, is a masterpiece of medieval artistry and a testament to Ireland’s scholarly heritage.
Dublin’s cultural scene is as lively as it is varied. The city boasts a wealth of museums, galleries, and theaters showcasing everything from ancient artifacts to contemporary art galleries. The National Gallery of Ireland houses an impressive collection of European masterpieces, while the Dublin Writers Museum celebrates the literary giants who have called the city home. The Irish Whiskey Museum is one of my special stops.
For a taste of Dublin’s famed hospitality, visitors need look no further than its lively pubs and taverns. From the historic Brazen Head, Ireland’s oldest pub, to the lively hangouts of Temple Bar, these establishments offer not only a pint of the black gold (that’s Guinness for you non-beer drinkers) but also a chance to plunge oneself in the sounds of traditional Irish music and the warmth of the local community.
Dublin is a city of contrasts, where the ancient and the modern coexist in harmony. Stroll along the cobblestone streets of the Georgian Quarter, with its well-designed townhouses and manicured squares, before immersing yourself in the cutting-edge architecture of the Docklands, where sleek skyscrapers rise against the backdrop of the River Liffey.
Dublin is more than just a city; it’s an experience. Whether you’re captivated by its rich history, enchanted by its vibrant cultural scene, or simply drawn in by the warmth of its people, Dublin has something for everyone. So why not embark on your own Dublin adventure and discover the magic of Ireland’s cultural gem? If you’re planning an Ireland vacation don’t forget to spend some extra days in my favorite city – Dubin.
