At Leisure Travel Enterprises, we pride ourselves on curating extraordinary travel experiences for our clients. Recently, our very own Director of Operations, Kelly Gunnels, embarked on a once-in-a-lifetime adventure in Croatia.
Courtesy of VBT Bicycling Vacations, Kelly experienced the country in a truly unique way—a seven-night bike and boat tour that combined active exploration with relaxing downtime. Her journey through Croatia’s scenic landscapes, rich culture, and warm hospitality is one we are excited to share.
A journey of a lifetime in Croatia
As Kelly describes, “I wanted to experience this beautiful country up close and personal, combining activity with enough downtime to truly relax.” Her choice? A bike tour with VBT that promised both excitement and leisure, perfect for soaking in Croatia’s stunning sights. This type of vacation perfectly balances relaxation with adventure travel, making it an ideal choice for those looking to explore Croatia in a more personal way.
Exploring Croatia by bike and boat
The adventure began in Split, where Kelly joined a group of 30 travelers from across the U.S. Ranging in age from 23 to 75, the group was diverse, and though some were competitive riders, most opted for E-bikes—an excellent decision, according to Kelly.
She fondly remembers, “As we pedaled through the islands, the scenery was breathtaking. We rode past picturesque olive farms and vineyards with stunning views from steep inclines—thank goodness for the E-bike!”
Each day started with breakfast on the boat, followed by a briefing about the day’s ride. Routes were carefully planned using the Ride with GPS app, and their rides averaged around 13 miles daily.
The VBT van accompanied the group, offering support with bike adjustments, water, and snacks. Whether they rode in the morning or afternoon, each leg of the trip provided incredible sights and unique group travel experiences.
Cultural immersion along the way
A major highlight for Kelly was the rich cultural immersion along the way. “We learned how olive oil is produced and graded, experiencing both traditional and modern methods,” she recalls. Kelly also enjoyed a wine tasting at the famous Grgic Winery and discovered a fun fact about Croatia: “Croatia does not export wine or olive oil!” These local insights gave the trip a personal and meaningful touch.
One particularly memorable stop for Kelly was at one of Europe’s three stone-cutting schools, where she met a student who shared his journey in stone restoration. Another favorite was the climb to Tvrdava Fortica, where panoramic views made for an unforgettable sunset.
Natural wonders at Mljet national park
Another standout experience was visiting Mljet National Park, home to the oldest marine protected area in the Mediterranean. Kelly marveled at the saltwater lakes, where she and her group floated effortlessly in the buoyant water, basking in the peaceful surroundings. If you’re looking for land vacations that combine nature and culture, this is a destination not to miss.
A culinary experience to remember
To top off the trip, Kelly had the chance to dive into Croatian cuisine. The ship’s chef taught the group how to prepare octopus salad, adding a hands-on culinary aspect to the adventure. This delicious activity gave Kelly and the group yet another way to connect with the local culture.
Why you should book your own adventure
Reflecting on her journey, Kelly enthusiastically recommends this tour to anyone looking for a fresh way to explore. “Biking through Croatia offered a truly unique way to explore this stunning country. The blend of physical activity, cultural insights, and shared experiences made for an unforgettable journey.”
Inspired by Kelly’s story? Book your own biking vacation with Leisure Travel Enterprises today and experience Croatia—or any destination—in a way that connects you with the landscape, culture, and people.

A welcome fit for discovery
Don’s expedition began in the pastel city of Hamilton, Bermuda, where the Scenic Eclipse awaited. This sleek, modern yacht—with its sophisticated design and cutting-edge features—stood out against the historic charm of Bermuda’s architecture and pink sand beaches.
As Don stepped aboard, he was greeted with a glass of champagne, a warm welcome from the crew, and the breathtaking views from the Sky Deck.
With only 228 guests on board, the Scenic Eclipse ensures an intimate, personalized experience. Designed to navigate remote locations while providing the highest level of comfort, this yacht redefines what it means to cruise in style.
From the pristine shores of Bermuda to the crystal-clear waters of the Caribbean, every detail on this journey has been carefully curated for travelers who seek the best of both worlds: luxury and adventure.
Culinary excellence at sea
One of the highlights of Don’s trip will be the extraordinary culinary experiences on board, thanks to celebrity chef Tom Götter. As part of Scenic’s Taste of Discovery, Chef Tom will be responsible for all the high-end cuisine offered throughout the cruise, setting the stage for an unforgettable culinary journey.
During an exclusive cooking demonstration, Don will have the chance to witness Chef Tom in action. From the precision of his technique to the passion in his presentation, each meal aboard the Scenic Eclipse will be crafted to be as memorable as the journey itself.
Discovering hidden gems in the Bahamas
Beyond the luxury of the yacht, Don will take time to explore some of the Caribbean’s hidden treasures. One of the most magical moments of his journey will be a private beach landing on San Salvador Island in the Bahamas.
Known for its untouched beauty and historical significance, San Salvador will offer Don a chance to connect with nature in a way few travelers ever experience.
From kayaking along the island’s sparkling coastline to snorkeling in its crystal-clear waters, Don will embrace the natural beauty that surrounds him. The Scenic Eclipse will not only bring him to these hidden gems but also provide the adventure tools to explore them fully — whether by Zodiac, kayak, or even Scenic’s own submarine.
Uncovering the wonders of the Exumas
Another unforgettable stop on Don’s journey will be the Exuma Islands, famous for their sapphire-blue waters and stunning cays. The Exumas, a favorite among celebrities, is an untouched paradise that offers unique wildlife encounters.
One of Don’s most delightful experiences will be swimming with the famous pigs of Exuma—an iconic experience that perfectly captures the whimsy and wonder of this part of the Bahamas.
For those seeking even more adventure, the Scenic Eclipse will offer exclusive helicopter tours and submarine excursions. These features, combined with the yacht’s cutting-edge expedition technology, will allow guests to witness the beauty of the Caribbean from both above and below the surface.
A journey like no other
What makes the Scenic Eclipse such a remarkable vessel is its ability to blend luxury with discovery. Guests can unwind in the spa, enjoy a cocktail at the Sky Deck, or take in the panoramic views from the Observation Lounge. At the same time, they’ll have access to thrilling adventures like snorkeling, kayaking, and private beach landings.
For Don, this balance between comfort and excitement will make his time aboard the Scenic Eclipse truly extraordinary.
As Don embarks on this adventure, he’s already planning his return to the Scenic Eclipse for its Antarctic expedition in 2026. His upcoming time on board will demonstrate that exploration doesn’t have to come at the cost of comfort—on the Scenic Eclipse, the two go hand-in-hand.
Your adventure awaits

For a small archipelago off the coast of Ecuador, the Galapagos islands enjoy outsized fame. Since playing a pivotal role in inspiring Charles Darwin’s theory of evolution in 1835, the islands have become an almost sacred destination for wildlife enthusiasts, historians, and lovers of science alike.
But what is it about the Galapagos that continues to fascinate travelers and capture imaginations around the world? In this article, we explore what makes these islands so special, and why a Galapagos cruise promises a journey of discovery you’ll never forget.
Unique Wildlife
As Darwin discovered when visiting the Galapagos almost 200 years ago, these islands host an astonishingly diverse array of wildlife – much of it uniquely adapted to life in the archipelago.
While seeing the famous giant Galapagos tortoises will be at the top of any nature lover’s list, many other captivating creatures call the Galapagos home. Here are some of our favorites:
Blue-footed boobies
Marine iguanas
Galapagos penguins
Galapagos sea lions
Galapagos hawks
Darwin’s finches
Waved albatrosses
When cruising the waters around the Galapagos, you may also be fortunate enough to spot sperm whales, bottlenose dolphins, and orcas. In the warmer months, even the occasional humpback and blue whales can be seen!
Stunning Natural Beauty
The Galapagos is an archipelago formed by volcanic activity, accounting for the islands’ dramatic landscapes. When you disembark to explore the islands, prepare to encounter breathtaking sights, like lava fields, volcanic craters, a variety of cacti, and, of course, some of the most pristine beaches on Earth.
While the Galapagos boasts picturesque white sand beaches to rival any other in the Pacific, white is only one of several colors of beaches found in the archipelago.
Hang out with the sea lions and flamingos on the surreal red sand beach of Rabida Island.
Walk in Darwin’s footsteps on the black sand beach of James Bay.
Stand in awe of the otherworldly green sands of Cormorant Point Beach on Floreana Island.
After seeing these amazing sights up close, it won’t take long to understand why the Galapagos is beloved by so many.
Rich History
While renowned for its natural beauty, the Galapagos features a rich human history as thrilling to learn about as the islands are to explore.
From Western explorers and pirates to indigenous people who made their way to the Galapagos from the mainland centuries ago, the islands have been drawing people to their exotic shores for many years.
When you go on your Galapagos cruise, be sure to book an expert-guided excursion to learn all about the archipelago’s fascinating history.
Sustainable Tourism Practices
As a beacon of scientific progress and ecological diversity, the Galapagos has gone to great lengths to build sustainable tourism practices that help preserve the natural beauty of the world’s first UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Ensuring tourism companies comply with strict regulations dramatically reduces environmental impacts, and the close management and monitoring of these federally protected lands helps maintain the diversity the islands are famed for. The Galapagos ultimately serves as an example of how to conduct tourism in a way that fosters appreciation for the natural world without inflicting harm.
